How to Search Pima County Court Records

The Clerk of the Superior Court runs the front door for Pima County court records. The case-records page lists four official paths. Public Record Search gives limited public viewing of Superior Court case data. ECR for Parties lets most parties with an Arizona driver's license view their own case. ECR for Attorneys is for counsel of record. Arizona eAccess is the statewide tool for many Superior Court civil and criminal cases.

Pima County court records - Clerk case records page

The Clerk page describes each option, lists the right office for in-person help, and posts a maintenance banner. Document access through ECR and Public Record Search is paused until the week of June 8, 2026.

Have a case number ready when you can. The Clerk says online data lags filings by three business days. Walk-in service at Room 241 covers gaps the online tools miss.

  1. Open the Clerk's case records page or the Justice Court records page.
  2. Pick the tool that matches the case type and your access level.
  3. Enter a case number, or a party name with a date range, in the open fields.
  4. Review the parties, events, and disposition on the case page.
  5. Request a certified copy from the Clerk for legal, work, or housing use.

If a Superior Court case does not show online, call Public Records Services at 520-724-3240 before driving downtown. Some files are sealed, archived, off-line, or too new to appear.

Arizona eAccess uses a registered account and a case-or-event search. The Justice Court runs a free case-and-citation search at jp.pima.gov/MobilePay.

Types of Pima County Court Records

Pima County court records cover most matters heard in the Superior Court and the Justice Court. Each group of cases has its own filing counter, fee, and copy rule. Juvenile and Title 36 mental-health case files are routed to the Juvenile Court Clerk on Ajo Way, not to Public Records Services downtown.

The Justice Court's public records page also lists what is off-limits online: Injunction Against Harassment, Order of Protection, felony cases, and criminal or traffic cases where the defendant is a juvenile. A separate request can sometimes reach those files when the law allows.

  • Criminal records - Superior Court felonies and Justice Court misdemeanors and traffic.
  • Civil records - Superior Court major civil cases and Justice Court small claims and evictions.
  • Family law records - Divorce, custody, child support, name change, and protective orders.
  • Probate records - Wills, estates, guardianship, conservatorship, and trust matters.
  • Juvenile records - Delinquency, dependency, severance, and adoption, mostly restricted.
  • Mental-health (Title 36) - Routed to the Juvenile Court Clerk on Ajo Way.

What Pima County Court Records Show

A Pima County court record is a case file, not a background check. The Clerk says plainly that the office does not run background checks for public inquiries. A case page lists the field set used by the court's docket system. Some items can be missing if they are sealed or marked confidential. Statewide criminal-history searches run through the Arizona Department of Public Safety under A.R.S. § 41-1750.

Public Access Framework for Pima County Court Records

Court records in Arizona are open unless closed by law, court rule, or court order. The basic open-records statute is A.R.S. § 39-121. A.R.S. § 39-121.01 defines public bodies and sets the rules for record maintenance and copy requests. Court records use Arizona Supreme Court Rule 123 for access and Rule 29 for record management.

The Clerk asks every requester to affirm a noncommercial purpose, or to state any commercial use, under A.R.S. § 39-121.03. That step is not optional. The Justice Court records page cites the same Rule 123 framework. Online tools, courthouse terminals, and certified copies can each show a different cut of the same case.

Fees vary by tool. Per-document purchase, monthly subscription, copy charges, and certification charges all sit in separate schedules. Service-fee processors may add their own electronic charges.

Note: The Clerk requires a written A.R.S. § 39-121.01 affirmation; do not skip it when sending a copy request.

Records That Are Sealed or Confidential in Pima County

Some Pima County court records are closed by statute or court order. A.R.S. § 8-208 sets juvenile delinquency access and closes adoption, severance, and dependency files. A.R.S. § 36-509 protects mental-health records. Sealing under A.R.S. § 13-911 lets eligible people petition to seal arrest, conviction, and sentencing records. A set-aside under A.R.S. § 13-905 is narrower and is not the same as sealing.

A person who wants a sealed Pima County court record opened back up usually files a motion in the court that issued the seal. The Justice Court excludes Injunction Against Harassment, Order of Protection, felony cases, and juvenile defendant cases from its web search. That does not erase the file. It limits the public web tool. A formal request to the right court may still reach the data the law allows.

Justice Court Tools and Sample Pages

The Justice Court runs its own case search at jp.pima.gov/MobilePay, with separate fields for case number and citation number. The system uses TR and CR prefixes and rejects partial entries.

The interface combines case search, citation search, a fine calculator, and a payment link, which is useful when the file in question is a traffic ticket or a small civil claim.
